New York relies on Oilheat,
and dealers rely on the New York Oil Heating Association (NYOHA)
- the voice of the Oilheat industry in New York City’s
five boroughs. The Association is a tireless advocate,
constantly monitoring and steering the policies, regulations
and issues that affect their members and their customers.
They work closely with government officials and allied
associations to address any business problems that
arise.
Established in 1939, NYOHA
takes a positive approach in advocating for Oilheat. They
regularly reach out to consumers with their “Hot Ideas”
newsletter to remind them of Oilheat’s strengths,
including friendly service, budget programs, service
contracts, conservation advice and high-efficiency system
upgrades. The newsletter informs customers about new
developments in Oilheat, such as the introduction of clean,
green Bioheat. Their web address is: http://www.nyoha.org.

| Oilheat
has a great, green future, and Bioheat ® plays an important
role. Bioheat® is a blend of traditional heating oil and
renewable biofuels that are derived from plants and food
byproducts. The fuels blend easily and burn flawlessly in
existing Oilheat systems. Biodiesel™ is the most diverse
fuel on the planet. It is made from regionally available,
renewable resources that are abundant in the U.S. including
soybean oil, other plant oils, recycled restaurant grease
and beef tallow and other fats.
Biodiesel ™has gone
through extensive testing costing over $60MM over the past
15 years to develop its ASTM specifications for the pure
blending component (B100 meeting D6751). The U.S. EPA
indicated that biodiesel™ from animal fats and recycled
cooking oil is 82% better than petroleum based diesel in
terms of GHG emissions. Biodiesel™ from soybeans, animal
fats and recycled cooking oil are now considered “Advanced
Biofuels®” by the U.S. EPA (because they are more than 50
percent better than petro-diesel).
The U.S. biodiesel®
industry only uses about 8% of the oil from this country’s
soybean crop – hardly enough to affect the price or
availability of foods produced with it. Biodiesel produced
from America’s soybeans only uses approximately 3% of the
nation’s soybean harvest annually. Massachusetts and
Connecticut are the only states that have mandated the use
of Biodiesel ™in heating oil which will begin in
2011.
Currently, state petroleum
associations of Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey,
Maine, Vermont, and Rhode Island have proposed legislation
for Bioheat® in their respective general assemblies.
Bioheat® Blend Opportunities: Bioheat® legacy blends, B6
– B20, B-100 testing; Further improving the fuel’s
carbon footprint; Increase environmental benefits; Keep
American dollars at home and Future pricing opportunities.
