Staying Clear of the Negatives
by Fred Martel
The latest news out related
to the economy isn’t all bad.
Poll results out today (August
12) show that productivity is
up 6% among US workers.
What I take from this impressive
number is that American
workers can be motivated to
work harder and earn their
pay when they are afraid of
losing their job because of a
weak economy. Also, businesses
are learning that the
right person can handle many
more tasks than a “job hopper”
can.
Housing sales are increasing.
The stock market is up
and the unemployment rate is
holding steady. Sounds like a
little too much optimism.
Another interesting item in
the current events category
is the overwhelming success
of the “Cash for Clunkers”
program. Obviously people
have money and will spend
it on a good deal. You can also learn from
the news (if you can bear
listening for more than three
minutes) that people are very
edgy. They will argue about
various political issues without
researching the topics in
advance. There are plenty of
critics out there, but few of
them actually know what they
are talking about.
You encounter this issue
when offering products or
services to people who surf the
web and gather just enough
information about HVAC to be
dangerous. They can’t wait
for you to show up so they
can challenge you and try to
sound smart.
